The Khanate of the Crimea (Crimean Tatar: Κερεμ Χανλεγε/Qırım Hanlığı) is a sovereign state in eastern Europe bordering Lithuania, Tatarstan and the Euxine Sea. A successor state of the Golden Horde of the Mongol Empire, for centuries it became a key partner in the Lithuanian-Polish-Russian Commonwealth, before regaining its independence in 1922 in the aftermath of the Second World War.
