Based on a proposed flag for "Novorossiya" from 1992 (which in turn is based on the Flag of the Ukrainian SSR). The gold star represents the people and unity (though the star is primarily added so the flag doesn't look as... "bland"). The color scheme is a play on the current flag of Belarus (to some degree).
