Based on this interesting proposal. Similar to the French tricolor, the blue is replaced by black and the red to orange. The black can represent Brittany (the birthplace of the discoverer of the islands) and orange can either be a faded red or represents the Celts. The ermine also represents Brittany, and is placed similarly to the flag of Free France during World War II.
