The coloring was meant to represent the green forests of Antarctica, the blue waters of the Southern Ocean, and the (purple) aurora-filled skies. The single white star represents the people and unity, and can be based on the white movement of Russia.
As an authors note, this flag was a play on the (at the time proposed) flag of Burma. The coloring was based on the flag of the Kuban Cossacks. The white star plays more on the military if anything. The flag is also the same ratio as the flag of Nazi Germany, with the star also being off center as with the swastika.
