The Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation is a country in Central Europe. situated on the vast coastal European plain in the north, and the reaching the south of the Italian Peninsula The origins of empire come from the Franco-German King Charlemagne crowned as the first Holy Roman Emperor in 800. For the next millennium the H.R.E remained as a confederation of feudal nations based on personal relationships rather than a single identity. The Protestant Reformation further divided the country despite the H.R.E's growing power across Europe. Led by Austria the H.R.E fused into a nationhood in the 19th century. The Pan-European War of the 1950's saw a successful invasion of Russia's western frontiers in the name of Catholicism. Today the Holy Roman Empire is a constitutional monarchy and has global status as the patron of the Catholic Church. The Holy Roman Empire is the world's most visited tourist destination.
