Maximilian

Josephs brother. Maximilian launched a Latinian backed expedition to Mexico (1865), after landing Maximilian's force of 6,000 men hastily took Mexico city and he was proclaimed Protector of Mexico. Only a few weeks later he returned home to Austria. But after 3 years of oppression and slavery a revolution was on his hands and as all Latinian backing had gone Maximilian went to sort out the situation. His force of 8,000 reinforcements were severely beaten by a 30,000 strong Revolutionary army. He was captured by the mob, tried and executed.

Was himself a clever ruler but lost all confidence in himself after the 1929 crash and went into a shadowy lifestyle. Then in 1933 Englebert Dolfuss was chosen as Chancellor and his Fascist regime came into play. Karl agreed to allow Fascism as long as he wasn't associated with it. Dolfuss ruled as effective dictator (1933 - 38) until he was killed in a mysterious car accident in the Alps. His propaganda minister Adolf Hitler took over as dictator until he was ousted by his deputy Seyss-Inquart.

Much more a politician than his father, one of his first actions was to topple Inquart from Power and restore the monarchy to its former splendor. He began cutting ties with the Latinians (1965) and made pacts with Bavaria and Poland. In 1968 he formed the Vienna pact with Poland, Bavaria and Prussia, and in 1974 he tried to force peace talks between the CSA and USA ( which were unsuccessful). But in 1992 another fascist regime came to power and Otto was sidelined.
