Carola av Sverige

Carola I was a reigning Queen of Sweden, and queen consort of Saxony. She was born 5 August 1833 in Stockholm, and died there 15 December, 1907. She became Queen of Sweden upon the death of her father, Gustavus V, 4 or 5 August, 1877.

She was the daughter and only surviving child of Gustavus V of Sweden and Louisa Amelia of Baden.

She married on 18 June 1853 in Dresden to Crown Prince Albert of Saxony, who later became King Albert I of Saxony. The couple had no issue, and the Swedish throne passed to her first cousin once removed, Frederick II, who also was the Grand Duke of Baden.

Carola I is, so far, the last monarch of Sweden who belonged to the house of Oldenburg.
