Balta battle

Panzergruppe 12B was to destroy the Soviet troops stationed in and around the city, be encircling it. After fierce resistance and a almost successful flank counterattack against German armies, with the help of reserve forces, the Russians were heavily pushed back and forced to retreat to new lines. However, Balta failed to be totally encircled until several days, and the Russians in the city could easily retreat eastwards to buy time for reinforcements. The German battle was therefore a large failure.

Notable for this battle was the small Romanian Corps which participated in the battle and took relative light damage from the Russian forces.
