The Australian Federation is an island state in Oceania.

Australia was a British territory from the 1780s to 1949, when it declared independence in the aftermath of the Second World War.

History[]

First World War[]

As an integral part of the British Empire, Australia was drawn into war in 1911 at the outbreak of the First World War. Australian Troops were mainly sent to fight on the Middle Eastern front, the African front and in New Guinea. In early 1912, the German colony of New Guinea surrendered, and became provisionally governed by Australia.

The ANZAC troops faced mass casualties in the disastrous Gallipoli campaign, which led to animosity between Australia and Britain.

Inter-War[]

After the war, Australia (and other anglophone dominions) stayed part of the British Empire. In the 1920s, There was a popular movement that wanted independence, citing that the British Government did not care for the Australian people, citing the Gallipoli campaign as evidence. In 1925, a Rebellion took place in Ballarat, Victoria, location of the 1854 Eureka Rebellion. It was brutally put down by the British units stationed there.

During the period of time when the BNP was in power in Britain, Australia was increasing isolated in its political and social beliefs. While the British parliament was dominated by right-wing groups, Australia’s was dominated by liberal and conservative groups. The main right-wing political party in Australia, the Australian Action Party had its most successful election in 1937, winning 15.2% of the vote.

The Australian Government encouraged violence against the aboriginal people, believing that the aboriginals had stabbed Australia in the back during the Great War.

Second World War[]

In 1944, the British Union entered the Second World War on the side of France, Italy and Spain. Australia and other Commonwealth realms were also drawn into the conflict. Similarly to WW1, ANZAC troops invaded German New Guinea, taking it by the start of 1945. Upon the entrance of the United States into the war in 1946, Australia was threatened by the power to the north, and was pushed back starting in March 1947. In August of that same year, Northern Australia was invaded, and on the 28th of November, Australia surrendered to the Americans.

During the 2-year American Administration, various preposals were made about the future of Australia. Preposals included staying as a semi-independent dominion of Britain, becoming independent, and federating with New Zealand. In the end, New Zealand voted to remain independent, so Australia became a independent nation, led by a president and prime minister.

Cold War Period[]

After the war, Australia tried to distance itself from the UK, and persued closer relations with America, and New Zealand. In 1963, it formed Auszeal with New Zealand, an intergovernmental alliance.

In the 1970s to 80s, Australia encouraged the recreation of a relationship between the British Nations and Australia, starting a policy known as réparer. Australia has since shared close relations between Britain and other Commonwealth realms.

Flag of Australia[]

The Flag of Australia was adopted in 1978, as a result of the Australian Flag Referendum, which voted to create a new flag. Between 1949 and 1978, Australia used the Euruka Flag, which was known as representing Australian Republicanism. In 1965, the aboriginal flag was recognised as an official flag.
