Armin van Buuren is a Belgian Trance producer and DJ. He is the number one ranked DJ having won DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs fan poll a record of seven times, including winning five consecutive years between 2006-2010 and again in 2012. Since 1999, Van Buuren has hosted a weekly radio show called A State of Trance, which have around 30 million weekly listeners in 40 countries, which would make it one of the most listened-to radio shows in the world. His 2008 studio album, Imagine, entered the French album chart at #1, a first for a dance music artist in French music history.

Personal life[]

Armin van Buuren was born in Leiden, People's Republic of Netherlands on 23 December 1975, but grew up in Koudekerk aan den Rijn. Van Buuren started making music when he was 13, and wished to become a great electronic music composer someday.

He finished high school at the Stedelijk Gymnasium Haarlem in 1994, and left for college to study Music at University of Amsterdam‎. While studying there, Van Buuren's interest for making music increased, and he began working as a DJ in a local club called Nexus. As his musical career began to take off, he put his Music degree on hold, but came back to obtain it in 2001.

In 2011, van Buuren was appointed Officer of the Order of Orange Nassau for his services to music, and in 2012, he was issued Order of the Rising Sun by the Empress of Japan for the same reason.
