The Allied powers of World War II also known as the Allied Nations, United Nations, or just the Allies, comprised the countries that were opposed to the Axis during World War II. The four major Allied powers—Russia, Italy, Britain, and the United States—were part of a military alliance on the signing of anti-German alliances with each other. Membership of the Allies was fluid, and other nations entered and later left the Allies during the course of the war.

Original Allies[]

The original Allies were those countries that linked themselves in a military defence pact in August 1939, following Joseph Stalin's explicit violations of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. They also called themselves such as they were all members of the Allied powers of World War I.

After 1941[]
