The Incident of 1998 was a Global Catastrophic Risk Type of Event that rendered the entire Continent of Antarctica destroyed.

In The Hours leading up to the event, a specific area, which happened to be coincidentally in the center, kept heading up. Contact Between Amundsen-Scott and the USAP were continued through the days, until the Event eventually happened. The Event, Also known as the 'Holocene Extinction' involved the Extinction of many Animals, approximately 45% of All Animals and >50% of all Human beings on the planet at the time.

The Name 'Holocene Extinction' has been used in various ways, and have been Debated. But the first agreement with this Name was the Incident of 1998. In Just ONE day, >25% of the Human Race was killed due to the Flooding, Earthquakes, or Any other catastrophic Event that took place that day, and >15% of all Animals on the Planet Were killed in one day. General Society collapsed after the Event, as the Sea Levels rose, and the Weather Changed.

The Minutes following the Event were filled with 6.5 Magnitude Earthquakes to 8.9 Magnitude Earthquakes. Industries immediately fell apart, and Cities began evacuating their civilians. Though, No one at the time thought Anything worse would've happened.

Though, they did. Millions of Civilians still remained on the coasts, and when the Coasts started to have their water levels rise, those Civilians' Chances to leave were too late, and they were added as casualties.

Debates Over The Start of The Incident[]

Debates over the Incident began a couple weeks afterwards, and a Group Assigned by the Remaining United States Government narrowed it down to two reasons:

  1. Meteorites
  2. Volcanic Eruptions

These two reasons have been debated between people since they've been formulated. Both have issues, but they represent closure in the case of the Incident, and closure for the deaths of 2.5 Billion People.

Meteorite Collision[]

This has been appointed as the first Reason for the Incident, and it has a Couple things that Compare, but multiple things that contrast. Meteorite sightings have been confirmed with the exact trajectory that could hit Antarctica, but one wasn't it as the ISS and NASA confirms that it passed Earth. The Area afterwards from space did look like a Meteorite Collided, but there wasn't any meteorite collisions confirmed.

Volcanic Eruption[]

This has been appointed as the second reason for the Incident, and it has a couple things that compare, and more things that contrast. Volcanic Activity in Antarctica is not a new thing, and Volcanic Activity is a very real thing that happens in that area. But, there wasn't any Volcanoes confirmed in that area, at least at the time.
