Howard Johnson's is a chain of hotels and restaurants located primarily throughout the United States and Canada. Founded by Howard Deering Johnson, it is the largest restaurant, non-fast food chain in the US, with over 3,000 company owned and franchised outlets on-Earth and 800 off-Earth. Howard Johnson's restaurants are franchises which license food and beverage rights from La Mancha Group LLC of New York. The company has worked closely with the Hilton chain of hotels in space operations by providing pre-packaged food for tourists staying in early space stations. This relationship has continued into the 21st century and the two companies have many joint ventures.
