Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a 1986 teen comedy starring Michael J. Fox, Elisabeth Shue, Alan Ruck, and Newt Gingrich. It is often cited as one of the most influential teenage comedies of all time and is typically ranked among the best comedies of the 1980's. The film revolves arounds the efforts of Ferris Bueller (Fox) pretending to be sick so he can play hooky, which includes stealing the antique sports car that belongs to the father of his antisocial friend Cameron (Ruck) and hightailing around Yorktown along with his girlfriend (Shue) while evading the nefarious high school principal Skinner (Gingrich).
