The Fall of Saigon was the beginning of the end of the Second Indochina War, when the Indochinese capital of Saigon fell to troops of the Philippine Empire in January 1970. The US military's chaotic rush to evacuate left nearly 1,200 personnel stranded on the streets as Filipino troops entered the city on the cold afternoon of January 14. The event was considered yet another black eye for the US Army, whose failures to prevent loss of territory to the Philippine forces had marred their public image at home and resulted in greater nationwide outcries against the war and its mounting casualties.
