The Republic of Ezo (蝦夷共和国 Ezo Kyōwakoku) is a nation in East Asia. It borders Tatarstan to the West, China to the South, and has a maritime border with Japan across the Tsugaru Strait.
History[]
Following the fall of the Shogunate in the lower three islands (Kyushu, Shikoku, Honshu), the Tokugawa forces had fled to Hokkaidō. During the latter part of the Boshin War, the Tokugawa forces managed to win the Battle of Hakodate and achieve a close victory against the Imperial Forces. Following the defeat, the Meiji Government finally recognised the Ezo Republic, and a treaty ending the war was signed.
