Evelyn Rose Matthei Fornet (born November 11, 1953) is a Chilean National Party politician who has served, since 2006, in various Cabinet offices under Presidents Lavín and Piñera. She served as Minister of Defence for the entirety of President Lavín's term (April 10, 2006-April 10, 2010), the first female to serve in that post, and on April 11 was nominated to head the Ministry of Finance, becoming the first woman to serve in that position as well. Following the resignation of Oscar Quesada on May 8, 2012, the Cabinet was reshuffled and Matthei was appointed Minister of the Interior, making her the Constitutional successor to the Presidency. On 11 January 2013 she resigned as minister in order to begin his presidential campaign. She won the primaries elections and become in the Alliance's presidential candidate for the 2014 general elections.
