Ernesto "Che" Guevara (May 14, 1928 - June 4, 1982) was an Argentinian revolutionary, who served as 23rd president of Cuba from 1965 to 1976. After the death of Fidel and Raúl Castro he gained leadership of the country and fought against Presidents Orson Welles and Spiro Agnew in the Cuban-American conflict of 1962-1969.
He remained in his position for seven years afterward. He was caught by counter-forces in 1976 when the Communist system of Cuba was finally overthrown. Guevara was imprisoned for political charges but committed suicide in prison in 1982.
