Eric Varley was a British Labour Party politician who held numerous cabinet positions, most notably as Chancellor of the Exchequer (1981 - 1983).

He held several cabinet positions under the Harold Wilson and James Callaghan Energy Secretary (1974 - 1975), Industry Secretary (1975 - 1980) and Employment Secretary (1980 - 1981).

In 1981 he became Chancellor of the Exchequer.
