The English general election of 1980 was held on May 8th 1980. It saw the National Party government of Eric Harding re-elected, albeit with a substantially reduced majority. The National Party won 296 of the 580 seats of the English Parliament, giving them a majority of 12 seats.
The Social Democrats led by James Cox faced a second consecutive defeat, and Cox resigned as party leader.
