The 2008 English State Election was held on the 8th May 2008 and was held alongside the Welsh State Election, 2008 and the Scottish State Election, 2008.

Results

The election marked an end to Alan Beith's 18 years as First Minister, being replaced by Margaret Beckett of the Leftist Alliance, Beith resigned as leader of the Social Liberals in England following the election. Following the election a coalition of the Leftist Alliance and Social Liberals was formed, being the first coalition in which the Social Liberals were not the leading party.
