The Emperor of the United Kingdom is the absolute monarchy of the United Kingdom. The monarchs title has been "Emperor" since 1801 but with the creation of the Republic of Hong Kong it has been widely regarded as obsolete and "King" is more suitable. There has never been an Empress of the United Kingdom because from 1450-1630 there was never a lady monarch. In 1630 the Edict of Rightful Succession proclaiming that no woman shall become a ruling member of the Royal Family. The current monarch is Theodore V after succeeding his father Alexander II.
