The Elbe–Rhine Offensive was a second successful Red Army and British Army operation on the Eastern Front in the European Theatre of Great Patriotic War in liberating Germany. It took place between 18 January and 25 January 1944. The offensive took Soviet forces from their start lines on the Elbe River almost 260 mi (417 km) to the Rhine River; located 451 km (280 mi) from the French capital of Paris.
