The Eduarda national football team represents Eduarda is international association football. It is controlled by the the Football Association of Eduarda, and is nicknamed the "Explorers" and the "Penguins". It is one of the oldest and most successful teams in Antarctica, having won a total of five Antarctic Cups (a record it holds with Maudland). Despite this local success, however, Eduarda has never participated in the FIFA World Cup.
History[]
Early Years (1922 - 1946)[]
Football was first brought into Eduarda in the 1900s by colonists from Britain. Football teams representing the four colonies that would eventually form the Dominion of Eduarda (Nova Hibernia, Great Cardiff, New Perthshire, and New Fenland) competed against each other and the Home Nations, up until 1921, when the four colonies were united into the Dominion of Eduarda. Eduarda's first game as a united dominion was a 10-1 loss against England, in Cookstown on September 9, 1922. Eduarda's only goal in that game was scored by Isidore Davidson, regarded by many as the first great Antarctic football player. This is Eduarda's worst loss in football, tied only with a 9-0 loss against Spain in Brazil during the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup.
2012 COOAAF Nations Cup[]
Eduarda defeated Tahiti in the final of the 2012 COOAAF Nations Cup and won the tournament for the nth time in its history.
2013 FIFA Confederations Cup[]
Because of its victory in the COOAAF Nations Cup, Eduarda qualified for the FIFA Confederations Cup for the first time in its history.
