Edmund Barton was an Australian politician who served as Prime Minister of Australia from 1901 - 1904 and later served as President from 1910 - 1915.

At the 1901 Federal election Barton led the Protectionists to a historic victory, ending 14 years of Free Trade rule. After 3 years in office Barton retired from the prime ministership to take up a position on the Australian High Court.

In 1909 he was elected President of Australia. Serving a full term in office, and through the first year of the first world war. He sought the Liberal Party nomination for another term in office in 1914, but was not selected. John Forrest instead became President.
