James Edward "Duke" Halperin (born October 8, 1938) is a retired Democratic politician from Florida who served for eight years as the U.S. Representative for Florida's 6th District and served for four years as U.S. Senator for Florida, winning the 1990 special election held to elect deceased Senator Danny Marks' replacement in a landslide but narrowly losing four years later in the 1994 Nationalist midterm landslide to current Senate Majority Leader Kelsey Grammer. In 1998 he lost in the Democratic primary for Senator and lost the 2002 Democratic primary for Governor to Ed Russo.
