[edit] Political system
Dixie's government is a semi-presidential system, with a unicameral parliament. Members of parliament are directly elected by the people, and serve two-year terms. Half of MPs are up for reelection every year. Each state is allocated a number of MPs based on population, and MPs are elected at-large, rather than representing a portion of their state. The members of majority (or plurality) party of Parliament select a candidate for Prime Minister, who is then voted upon by the entire Parliament.
The President is elected to a six-year term, and may not be re-elected. The President also serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces. Typically, the President is responsible for foreign relations, and the Prime Minister for domestic issues, although this is by tradition, not by law.
