Depeche Mode were a well known British synthpop band before Doomsday.
Martin Gore, the guitarist and main lyricist was suspected to have died in London in 1983 and the status of the other 2 members was unknown until 1987, when vocalist David Gahan and keyboardist Andrew Fletcher turned up in Inverness, Celtic Alliance. The two men had arrived in the city after a hard trek through lawless territory, first in their tour bus and then on foot.
In 1990 they decided to resume making music and in 1991 they recorded "Enjoy the Thinking". It was a major success and they continued to progress towards a more rock-oriented sound while retaining some electronic influences. After 1999 they started to record songs with various other artists and David Gahan started a political group for a rationalist future.
