The Democratic Party is a defunct political party that operated the in the United States from 1818 until 1871.
It was founded by the 6th President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, who was the first President also a member of the Democratic Party. John Calhoun, Vice President and successor of Andrew Jackson also played a large role in the early history of the party.
The last Democratic President was James Buchanan, who presided over the American defeat in the First Global War.
It is widely considered that the Nationalist Party is the successor to the Democratic Party.
