David William Donald Cameron (born 9 October 1966) is a British politician who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 2010 to 2014 and Leader of the Conservative Party from 2005 to 2014. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Witney from 2001 to 2014. Cameron identifies as a One-Nation Conservative, and has been associated with both economically liberal and socially liberal policies.
On September 19, 2014; the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum resulted with Scotland voting to leave the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. The same day, Cameron made a press speech in which he stated that he was "disappointed" with the result, but respects the Scottish people's choice, and that the British and Scottish people should continue to work together and remember what they have in common. There are many calls for Cameron to resign after failing to preserve the union.
On September 22, 2014, Cameron announced that he would resign, though would continue as the Prime Minister until a new leader could be elected. On October 15, 2014, Theresa May was elected Leader of the Conservatives, and becomes Prime Minister after Cameron steps down.
