Daniel François Malan, Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa during the Third World War

Daniel François Malan was the Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa during the Third World War . Malan opposed involvement in the Korean War, but saw action against the Soviet Union as necessary to preserve South African (i.e. Afrikaner) culture and identity, as he saw a Soviet dominated world worse than a British dominated world. Malan represented the Union of South Africa at the Sao Paulo Peace Accords.

Under Malan, the Union of South Africa underwent the transition to Apartheid, the policy of separating ethnic groups. This system would last into the 21st century, despite the opposition of the African National Congress.
