Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of 11 players each on a field at the centre of which is a rectangular 22-yard long pitch. It was first played in Southern England in the 16th Century and soon became the national sport of England in the end of the 18th Century. Throughout the 19th Century Britain had colonies all over the world, with cricket being the popular game in the British Empire, the game quickly spread into India, Australia, Canada and Africa. In the 20th Century the game became even more popular with more people playing it.
