Part of Timeline (Canadian Rebellion)

The Confederation []

Louis-Joseph Papineau saw what caused the Federation of Canada to fail, and with the help of the U.S. government (which was helping Canada rebuild) pushed for his "Confederation of Canada". It had a small federal government, with two almost self governing "protectorates" that had almost complete control over what they did. The Protectorates were split almost down the middle, with the Northern taking New Foundland and most of Quebec and the Southern, the rest. The protectorates were renamed Protectorate of Virong (Vee-wrong) and Quebec.

Government[]

The Confederation was mostly ruled by the Premiers of each Protectorate. For issues involving war, land and more important things, the two premiers would meet at a summit to decide what was to be done.

Each protectorate operated almost independently (which they did a lot). They could embargo each other, "declare war" and even use diplomacy to take land away from each other. They just had to help each other in times of war.

Expansion[]

With the population of the confederacy rising rapidly,  many decided to continue west. Some even went north. They discovered so much land that an entire new protectorate was formed, Kweenland. During this rapid expansion many were able to mine for salt, and build houses because of the large amounts of timber.

Fall[]

After ten years of successful governing little cracks were noticed in the stability of this government. Tensions grew as each premier fought for his own protectorate. The lack of a stable 'federal' government also contributed. In 1812 Premier John Luke, of Quebec was stabbed to death by George Smith of Virong. Many in the district of Kweenland were very poor, often forced into slavery. With such an inequality many ran across to Quebec. However, neither Quebec nor Virong were doing any better. The rich were few and the poor were many. Protests sprang up across the confederation. After two years of this, a coup d'etat was performed on each of the protectorates, thus ending the Confederation of Canada.
