Seceded from the United States of America in 1815 due to a peace treaty outlawing slavery. A convention of southern states' representatives had gathered to discuss what they perceived as centralising tendency in the federal government. The creation of the Confederation of Sovereign States aimed to ensure the respect of states' rights.

Following a short war with the Federated Republic of America, it obtained the Missouri territory.
