The Commonwealth of Oceania is a major power in the southern hemisphere. also known as the Great Southern Superpower, as it is the effective third superpower, dominating the hinge of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

After WWII, the former British colonies of Australia and New Zealand were merged into the new Commonwealth of Oceania. They were then admitted into the Free World Alliance

The Early Years

After the formal treaty of unification, the new state of Oceania had several tasks ahead of it. the first was to build up a self-contained industrial base. Oceania had a massive windfall when overwhelming deposits of Uranium were found both on the mainland, and

The Lange Years

David Lange was elected President in 1984. his most controversial decision was to declare Oceania 'Nuclear Free', a move which had great popularity among the populace, but severely strained relations with other FWA powers, especially the United States.

Oceania is a true third power, staunchly defending its interests against all powers. the war of words between Oceania and the FWA continues unabated.

Oceania controls most of the South pacific. Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea are all integral territories of Oceania. New Caledonia, Fiji, Tonga, the Solomon Islands and most recently Western Samoa are also a part of Oceania.

Up until the Nuclear Free Treaty, Oceania was the world's number one exporter of Uranium, the only supplier to the whole of the FWA. the income from this aided in the full industrialization program, and also ensured Oceania's Military was one of the best equipped in the world. when it declared itself to be Nuclear free, it shut down almost all of the Uranium mines, creating a major shortage until the Uranium mines in Canada came online. Oceania also abandoned the Pacific Free Trade Agreement. Though Oceania's economy suffered a major slump, it's industrial base and adoption of alternate sources of energy ensured it's economy would recover, and by 2007, it returned to pre 1984 levels.

there are four main political parties in Oceania. Labour, the Nationalists, Oceania First, and the Democrat Party. the MMP system of proportional representation is the system used by Oceania.

Foreign Relations

Oceania still maintains links with the FWA. there was a major crisis when a bill was drafted in 1998, proposing to normalize relations with the Greater German Reich. the bill passed through with only a single vote.

Oceania has a strong Military for its size.

The army has been involved in missions all across the Pacific. The Indonesian Civil War, the Tongan upheaval, and most recently the conflict in Samoa, which raised tensions with the US. Ocenaian advisers also aided the Government of Costa Rica, in fighting FWA Sponsored Guerrilla Forces.

The Oceanian navy has one Carrier, the OCS Alliance, and four Missile Cruisers, the Sydney, the Perth, the Canberra and the Auckland.
