The Commonwealth of Nations, or the Commonwealth (formerly the British Commonwealth), is an intergovernmental organization of 53 member states that were mostly territories of the former British Empire. The Commonwealth operates by intergovernmental consensus of the member states, organized through the Commonwealth Secretariat and Non-governmental organizations, organized through the Commonwealth Foundation. The Gambia left the Commonwealth on October 3, 2013. The former colony of Hong Kong, which is currently experiencing an uprising, has seen movement among Hong Kongers to join the Commonwealth as the HK Colonial Flag was seen among the protestors.
