After World War 2, France found itself t be the largest colonial empire in Europe. As a result, it had a tough time putting down revolts From Algeria to Indochina, and the UN's self-determination principle didn't help either. Because it wasn't occupied ATL, France was in a much stronger position, and as it was a member of the Entente though, it had access to Nuclear weapons and the fear of such a device helped quell some revolting provinces, but not all of them....

However, the War in Indochina (Kornilovshina) was quite grisly, since the communist rebels under Ho Chi Minh were using guerrilla tactics very effectively and Russia had to be called in to help.

Another Colonial war took place in Algeria, with nationalist Muslims inciting riots in major cities.
