The Cold War was the confrontation between the Capiltalist Democracies lead by the United States of America, and the Communist regimes lead by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, since the end of World War II in 1945 to the disintegration of the Soviet Union in 1991.

It is called "Cold War" as there was no direct armed confrontation between the two blocks, except for inteligence gathering, and the armed confrontations occured on countries outside the blocks. This confrontations received the name of "Proxy Wars".
