The German Reich counter by testing a missile that reaches the outer reaches of the atmosphere.

Von Braun begins work on Ballistic missiles.
May 5 1948 Rome
The Vatican council vote to evacuate Rome. They move to the Philippines.
July 4 1948 Washington DC
On this day, all of the Entire North American Continent is annexed to the United States in an attempt to secure its sphere of influence. The USA now has 100 States in total.
August 6 1948
The USA repeals the immigration act, allowing safe haven for the millions fleeing Nazi persecution. Many of them were scientists and soldiers, and would thus allow for some help in the Cold War. Nikita Khrushchev, fleeing Stalin's wrath spends the rest of his days in Toronto.
August 7 1948 Miami
The first Eastern European Immigrants arrive. one of them is a young priest named Karol Wojtyla, who would preach in St Patrick's church, Washington DC, for the rest of his life.
