The Cold War was a state of political and military tension after World War II between powers in the Allied Bloc (the United States, its NATO allies and others), powers in the Shugarist Bloc (the Shugarhai Union and its allies) and powers in the Communist Bloc (the Soviet Union and its allies).
Historians have not fully agreed on the dates, but 1947–1997 is common. It was termed as "cold" because there was no large-scale fighting directly between the two sides, although there were major regional wars, known as proxy wars, in Korea, Vietnam, France and Afghanistan that the two sides supported. The Cold War split the temporary wartime alliance (Allied Powers and Shugarhai Union) against Nazi Germany, leaving the USSR, the UMSS and the US as three superpowers with profound economic and political differences: the former being a single-party Marxist–Leninist state, the united being a Martist-Shugarist absolute monarchy and the latter being a capitalist state with generally free elections.
