Sharon Christa McAuliffe (née Corrigan; September 2, 1948 – January 28, 1986) was an American teacher from Concord New Hampshire, and was one of the seven crew members killed in the Trans-lunar Challenger disaster.

The Trans-Luna Shuttle Challenger was hit by several small pieces of metal broken from a collapsed Soviet solar sail. Though others have died, over the years of space flight, this was the first Trans-Luna shuttle to be destroyed. Christa McAuliffe who was to be the first permanent teacher on the Moon.
