The Chishima Prefecture (Japanese: 千島県, Chishima-ken; Russian: Тисиминская префектура, Tisiminskaya prefektura) is a prefecture of Japan. Established in 1995, it formed as part of eliminating the dispute between four islands which were also claimed by the Soviet Union. The prefecture currently contains the lowest populated, and the only one (aside from Okinawa) which recognizes an additional language within its borders (the Russian language).
