China is home to hundreds of city-states, which carry varying degrees of control and authority. Whilst many claim to be legitimate successors to the PRC, and are aggressive to others, many have also gladly thrown off the rule of the PRC, and established new nations. Both Anhui and Sichuan originated as a series of city-states which united over time to form stronger nations.
