The Caucasus Emirate is an Islamic emirate located in OTL Chechnya and controling parts of Chechnya and Ingushetia. Emir Dokka Umarov, has stated "our mission is to unify all of Allah's peoples of the caucasus (Islamic people in the Caucasus)" and actually claims Azerbaijan, Daguestan, Abkhazia, Ossetia, and most of the northern Caucasus. There are fears in the region that the Emirate serves as another front for the Muslim Liberation Army. No conclusive link has been found, although the Emir openly praises the efforts of the MLA against the "Communist Satan", as well as Israel.
History
Pre-Doomsday
Chechen rebellion would characteristically flare up whenever the Russian state faced a period of internal uncertainty. Rebellions occurred during the Russo-Turkish War, the Russian Revolution of 1905, the Russian Revolution of 1917, the Russian Civil War, and Collectivization. Under Soviet rule, Chechnya was combined with Ingushetia to form the autonomous republic of Chechen-Ingushetia in the late 1930s.
The Chechens again rose up against Soviet rule during the 1940s, resulting in thedeportation of the entire ethnic Chechen and Ingush populations to the Kazakh SSR(later Kazakhstan) and Siberia in 1944 near the end of World War II. Stalin and others argued this was punishment to the Chechens for providing assistance to the German forces. Although the German front never made it to the border of Chechnya, an active guerrilla movement threatened to undermine the Soviet defenses of the Caucasus (noted writer Valentin Pikul claims that while the city of Grozny was preparing for a siege in 1942, all of the air bombers stationed on the Caucasian front had to be re-directed towards quelling the Chechen insurrection instead of fighting Germans at the siege of Stalingrad). Chechen-Ingushetia was abolished and the Chechens were allowed to return to their "own ethnic land" after 1956 during de-Stalinization under Nikita Khrushchev.
The Russification policies towards Chechens continued after 1956, with Russian language proficiency required in many aspects of life and for advancement in the Soviet system.
Doomsday
On Doomsday a nuclear weapon exploded in Grozny and Shali, sending the ASSR into chaos, as agriculture which most of the zone survived one died, the ASSR collapsed, it was transformed into an area of different surviving communities, tribal peoples, and primitive warfare.
On 1984 a group of communists take over the city of Urus-Martan and declared the People's Republic of Ickheria. This Communist state would capture all the are of Ingushetia and Chechnya.
Post-Doomsday
On January 1985 civil unrest took the People's Republic, in the following days armed forced would be used. Although this would be the start of the Chechen Crisis.
In 1985, civil war broke out in Chechnya. The Chechen Civil War lasted twelve years between the Islamic Liberation Army (not the MLA) and the Communist Factions, devastating the country's economy, and resulting in massive loss of human life and property. It is estimated that 20,000 people were killed and another 50,000 wounded. Some 60,000 people were displaced from their homes. The war ended in 1990 with the signing of the Urus-Martan Agreement which started the Islamic Republic of Ickheria and Chechnya was left in ruins.
During the civil war, the Muslim Liberation Army (MLA) used Chechnya to launch attacks against the Communists.
Although the War was over, problems would continue. In 1999, a MLA sponsored coup happened, in which Dokka Umarov declared himself Emir and established the Caucasus Emirate.
On 2000 the Emirate launched their firsts expeditions to the Caucasus, they discovered Dagestan, in which tense relations happened, Ossetia, in which they were not accepted because they entered talking about Islam, Azerbaijan which although treated good relations were tense because Chechnya was Sunni and Azerbaijan Shi'a Muslims, and Finally the Don and Kuban Republics were they discovered the Siberians in 2004.
On 2005, the Russian Confederacy entered the Caucasus, first they discovered Don and Kuban, and later the Emirate which treated the invaders which almost entered a war.
After the contact was made with Siberia, things have gone bad in the Emirate as Communists, Islamists, and even White Russians have emerged, and the country is on the brink of Civil War, as armed clashes and terrorists attacks happen more each time, and pressure from all the Caucasus countries, Siberia, and the Russian Confederacy made the country prepare each time more, and more for a civil war. Each time the presence of the MLA in the high ranks of the theocracy is bigger, and terrorist attacks continue sparkling through the Emirate.
