'The instance of the catastrophic Cascades-San Andreas Earthquake in 1970 was the key driver of the secession of California, Oregon and Washington from the United States of America, and in turn, a catalyst for the turmoil and conflict to come.'
At 10:54am on the morning of May 13th, 1970, a catastrophic earthquake of 9.0 hit the Cascades region between Victoria Island, British Colombia and Upper California. The earthquake, a result of built up stress in the Cascadia subduction zone, flattened vast expanses of the Northwest coastline
