The British Empire is widely respected to be the most powerful nation of the world. It was the only nation to survive the 1910 Strike. It's currency has been adopted by many other nations. Their ships travel waters that no European has traveled since the strike of 1910. For many isolated people, the Brits are the only other civilized people. British Scouting units (large metal robots that are designed to map land, and find unclaimed habitable land) run around vast glaciers to rediscover other far-off lands. Despite losing some colonies, they have retained most of the valuable ones (with the notable exception that is India). Top British scientists look for ways to avert the coming meteor (CODE NAMED: Spark) that could wipe out 96% of all life on Earth. Once the government releases the news, it will start the first multi-nation organization and attempt to get all the nations working together to stop it.
In 1898, the first meteor hit. The British Parliament quickly realized that it would be impossible to govern all of their colonies and themselves in such a disaster so at the risk of all the colonies gaining independence, they allowed each one to have a degree of autonomy and make their own decisions. Transportation to the colonies was effectively shut down, food supplies became the new priority. The powerful factories that the British Empire was run on were also shut down. The British economy was in ruins. Massive groups of people died of starvation. Earthquakes nearly toppled London. The overspread British army was helpless. Two short years, the Britain awoke to a changed world. The dying and misery had changed the way people viewed things. Human rights groups had larger support than before. It was a world that valued human life. The empire rediscovered its colonies and brought the world back to life. In many other lands, nations had completely collapsed. Easy pickings for the British Empire, which now sought to bring as many people as possible into their empire. France did the same, and the old rivalry with the French was quickly brought back to life. Then, in 1898 a meteor struck again. This time the very sky turned black, and was winter for almost half of the year. Aside from these two things, life continued on as normal. But a massive meteorite hit in 1903. Immediately afterwards news of the impact was brought to Europe, the German Empire ceased to exist. Anarchy swelled most of central and eastern Europe. The United States of America declared bankruptcy. These things actually helped the British Empire for two reasons (1 Most of Britain's rivals were on their knees begging for help (2 It helped quell independence movements in the colonies by creating fear that only Britain could support them. As Britain had the potential to be self-sufficiant (but had always used international trade, one the of the reasons they had acquired such a large empire) it could support itself where other nations couldn't. The last chunk of the meteor hit in 1909. Almost immediately afterwards, America and France ceased to exist. The world was in complete anarchy, British ruled their empire only in name! The British Pound completely collapsed. The entire world was in complete anarchy. The Russian Empire officially ended in 1911, but had been long dead since 1909. Then a glimmer of hope emerged from the ashes. Germany, which had been one of the first nations to fall, was the first nation to get back up again. Glaciers had barely missed Berlin, and Germany's industrial northeast. With thousands of factories pumping food and supplies a new German Coalition arose. Quickly, Germany came to dominate all Europe. At first the British were delighted about Germany's amazing recovery, but their smiles quickly turned to frowns as on several occasions Germany threatened to invade Britain. Germany sought to dominate all of Europe. They were mostly successful, except for he fact that France was cut off by a massive glacier. In 1919 Germany launched a full invasion of Britain. After it became apparent that the British weren't going to give up, Germany supported India and helped it become independent. This was a devastating blow to the might of the British Empire. So the following year, British troops attacked German-Backed India. In 1924, Britain finally granted India independence on the terms that the new nation would not be a vassal of Germany.
