The Battle of Abyan was fought in Yemen in the autumn of 637 between the Sassanid Persian Empire and an Abyssinian expeditionary force. Part of Ali's Persian War, it resulted in a decisive Persian victory and the retreat of King Wasan Sagad back across the Erythrean Sea. The Persian continued unhindered along the coast to begin the Siege of Mecca, while the Abyssinians regrouped and prepared for another attempt at relieving the besieged Talibid Caliphate.
