Bashar al-Assad
is the current President and Commander in Chief of Syria. He became the head of Syria in 2000 after the death of his father, Hafez al-Assad, who had lead Syria for 30 years prior.

More recently Assad has been involved in the Syrian Civil War, as well as attending the Erbil Conference.
