Barack Hussein Obama II (born August 5, 1961) is the current Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Hawai'i, a position he has held since June of 2008 when he led his centrist Democratic Party to victory in the 2008 Hawai'ian general election, forming a minority government. Obama is the first Prime Minister not to be of the long-dominant Social Democratic Party since 1954. Obama's government was returned in the October 2012 elections with a majority mandate. The son of an American expatriate and educated in the United States, Obama's five years in office have seen the "Americanization" of Hawai'ian interests, including a renewal of the US-Hawai'i Defense Pact.
