Austria (German: Österreich), officially the State of Austria, is a landlocked East Alpine country in Central Europe. It is bordered by Bavaria to the west, Bohemia to the north, Slovakia to the northeast, Hungary to the east, and Illyria to the south. German is the country's official language, though minority languages from around Europe and the world are commonly spoken.

The capital of Austria is Vienna, home to the seat of the European Community and a number of affiliated diplomatic organizations. Until November of 2013, Austria was part of the Confederation of the Danube, better known as Danubia, of which Vienna was also the capital. Since 2013, Austria has been governed under a state of emergency by the Government of National Unity headed by Chief of State Arnold Schwarzenegger, a government regarded by several states around the world as a military junta.
